A devastating typhoon hit the Philippines last weekend, which has so far claimed 1,774 lives, with an official death toll expected to reach 10,000. Typhoon Haiyan is being called the deadliest disaster to hit the Philippines in history, with millions of dollars in damage to buildings and thousands of Filipinos injured or homeless.
The American Humanist Association is working with the Philippine Atheists & Agnostics Society (PATAS) to raise funds that will be used to bring food and potable drinking water to victims of Typhoon Haiyan. The target area for relief efforts will be the Hilutungan Island of Cebu, which was hit particularly hard by the typhoon.
Humanist Charities is urging all of its members to donate what they can toward the Philippine Typhoon Relief Fund so that money will be sent directly to an atheist organization on the ground in the Philippines that will help bring water and much-needed supplies to the people of Cebu.
